The model depicts in authentic detail this British Navy Sixth-Rate ship of 22 guns. She had a gun deck length of 95' , a beam of 25' and tonnage of 264 . Built by the master shipwright Robert Shortis for King William III at Sheerness Dockyard and launched in 1697 , she was later sold on July 29, 1714 for £ 360 . The plank-on-frame, Admiralty-style model is constructed of boxwood and holly, with exposed hull and deck framing and two fitted bulkheads under the quarter deck and two lockers under the fo'c's'le deck. Natural finish with accents of color, elaborate gilded carvings. Exterior upper bulwarks show gunport wreath carvings and painted scrollwork. Very decorative stern with coat-of-arms and beautiful lion figurehead; fully rigged of wire authentically twisted to scale and colored per period practice. Model is presented exactly like the original dockyard model, now in the Pitt-Rivers Museum, Oxford: mounted on hand-carved dolphins. All set on a custom myrtle burl veneer case with glazed cover trimmed in matching wood.
