This model depicts one of the original Revenue Cutters commissioned for the U.S. Navy in Baltimore, circa 1837. She was first built as a 91’ topsail schooner of 190 tons, but re-rigged as a brig in 1838. She participated in the Seminole Wars in Florida on blockade duty. The model has a solid planked-over hull construction; of linden wood, laid decking, and solid or built-up deck furniture. The hull bottom has individually applied copper sheathing plates with a variegated finish. Shows all basic gear, fittings, armament, and three boats on davits, and rigging per general practice. Mounted on a custom mahogany base with inlaid banding, glazed cover trimmed in brass.
