The 14-gun brig Fair American, idescribed as a Bermuda-built brig, meaning either made in Bermuda or to Bermuda-sloop lines, about 1776, and commanded by Captain Charles Morgan. Capt. Morgan was granted a privateer Commission by Governor John Rutledge of South Carolina on 12 November, 1776, while in command of the brig ACTIVE. Fair American’s dimensions were: LOA, 80’8”; length on the deck, 68’; length on the keel, 55’3”; breadth, 24’; depth in hold, 9’; draft, 11’8”; tonnage, about 120.
