Model depicts the U.S. Navy Benham Class destroyer, built at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in 1939. Wilson is shown in her 1945 configuration for the Pacific Fleet. There she took part in the Battles of Savo Island and Guadalcanal, as well as serving in convoy such as one off Leyte on Dec. 27, 1944 that came under repeated and devastating Japanese aircraft attack throughout the day. Serving a lengthy and varied wartime career in both the Atlantic and the Pacific, she received 11 battle stars for her service during WWII. The model is constructed of a molded hull with all superstructures built-up and metal plated. It carries all deck gear, fittings, and armament per specifications. Her registered dimensions are: LOA 340’ 9”, Displacement 2,,250 tons, Beam 35.6’. Model is mounted on two brass pedestals and presented on an oak baseboard with glazed cover trimmed in brass.
