An impressive portrayal of this powerful 74-gun 3rd Rate Alfred Class ship-of-the-line for the Royal Navy, launched on 18 October 1781 at Portsmouth. This 169’ ship would soon be involved with several historic naval sea battles, including that of Saintes, Copenhagen and Finisterre. The solid wood core model has been planked-over with the bottom partially copper sheathed. It shows individual deck planking and other finely crafted deck furniture, gear, armament and fittings. The stern and quarter galleries are authentically decorated, as well as the classical ‘Warrior’ figurehead. It is painted with a black topsides and ocher gunport band, with red interior bulwarks. The model is thoroughly rigged with twisted copper wire appropriately painted, tissues furled sails and flags. The water is hand-carved of jet long and then hand-painted with artist oils. It is mounted in a English black walnut burl veneer case with matching trim and two brass engraved plaques
