Plans for this typical 6-gun, Revolutionary War privateer brig, precursor of the famous “Baltimore clipper” design schooner, were based in large part on British Admiralty drafts for the captured American privateer brig, Fair American. Shown c. 1770, Hazard represents one of the many Colonial brigs of the period, which were sent out from ports up and down the American east coast in enterprising pursuit of prize monies available to vessels capturing enemy ships. Accurately fitted and painted per research, the model has exposed frames port and starboard and an all-natural wood finish. Shown with six guns and mounted on custom, mahogany baseboard with glazed cover trimmed in brass.
