A waterline diorama depicts the British battlecruiser - one of "the splendid cats" - ca 1912 at anchor. Flagship of Real Admiral Beatty's First Battlecruiser Squadron, LION fought at the decisive WWI battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland, surviving until her breaking-up in 1922. One of her steam pinnaces is shown underway off her starboard stern, and her sea plane has departed from her pad above "Q" turret.
