The famous armored cruiser Brooklyn was launched on February 10, 1895 at the yards of William A. Cramp & Sons, Ship & Engine Building Company, Philadelphia. Her maiden voyage was to Great Britain to attend the Naval Review at Spithead celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in June 1897.
