Derek Hunnisett (1918 – 1990)

At 16 Mr. Hunnisett began building 18-24″ models; however he joined the army, was captured in 1940 and held prisoner-of-war for five years. On his return he took up modeling again, building each model smaller than the previous one. He was eventually awarded twelve championship cups, two H.V. Evans trophies, three bronze medals and five silver medals at the Mechanical Engineering Exhibitions in London; all for models exhibited in the miniature class. His works were collected by the Royal Family of Britain, London Science Museum, The Mariners Museum, Rudolph Schaefer Collection and the William Combs Collection. He has had articles published in several issues of Model Shipwright.
