JOAQUIM
MARISTANY (1942-
): Born in Barcelona
and
educated as a mechanical
engineer by the Universidad
Politecnica of Barcelona,
he has been building
models professionally
since 1979. Mr. Maristany
takes pleasure in
faithfully reproducing
unique
historic shadowboxes
in the style of late
19th century European
and American marine
artists. His work
can be found in the
Barcelona
Maritime Museum and
in numerous Spanish
national historical
societies and private
organizations. Since
the 1980’s
his work has been
exhibited
in France, Italy,
Britain, Bermuda
and the United
States.
His
custom models not
only illustrate
specific vessels,
but he has great
range and flexibility
in providing custom
background scenes
e.g. historic landmarks,
coastlines and harbors.

This artistic
ship's portrait

famous yacht
from a starboard
side view as
she successfully
challenges the
Royal Yacht Squadron
off the Isle
of Wight, England,
in 1851 - a victory
which would win
her what has
become yachting's
most prestigious
trophy: the America's
Cup. The background

it surrounded
by other sailing
yachts and a
steam yacht passing
in the near distance
at right. The
